Baxter’s heritage is built on over 80 years of innovation in healthcare, including a long list of “firsts.” As with the first manufacturer prepared intravenous (IV) solutions, Baxter continues to make history with life-saving and sustaining products.
Two years after its founding in 1931, the company opened its first manufacturing facility in a renovated automobile showroom in Glenview, Illinois, USA. There, six employees turned out the complete line of five intravenous solutions in glass containers. Baxter’s history of innovation continued with several other notable “firsts”:
- The first closed system IV containers
- The first premixed drug solutions
- The first company to form alliances with pharmaceutical companies to package their drugs in IV containers
